A strong, open relationship between the Community and the Case ACTU has been a critical part of the success of the Case ACTU over its many years of operation. A very important part of this relationship is our Community Advisory Board, which serves a formal role in the approval and monitoring of the Unit's trials, and supports other ACTU outreach events. Additionally, the Unit holds community education events, attends regional HIV-related public events, and distributes a community newsletter, Positive Views. For more information on the Community Advisory Board, click below: Community Advisory Board General Description/Meeting Time Community Advisory Board Mission Statement For information on upcoming community events, go to the Events page of this website. The Case AIDS Clinical Trials Unit Community Advisory Board ("CAB") is a group of HIV-positive people and other interested community members who provide important community input into the clinical trials process. The CAB strives for its membership to reflect the demographics of the AIDS epidemic in the Greater Cleveland area, stressing inclusion of traditionally underserved communities. CAB membership is open to HIV-positive people, other interested community members, and people working in the HIV/AIDS field. CAB activities include providing input into developing clinical trials; discussing medical developments and challenges with ACTU professional staff; assisting in community outreach; participating in national AIDS Clinical Trials events; and assisting in organizing public educational meetings. The Community Advisory Board (CAB) meets the second Tuesday of each month (except for July and December) at the Foley Building, Room #306, 2061 Cornell Road, Cleveland at 6:00 p.m. Meetings are open to the public. The Mission of the Case AIDS Clinical Trials Unit Community Advisory Board (CAB) is to integrate community involvement in AIDS clinical trials in order to advance HIV/AIDS research. The Community Advisory Board provides an opportunity for affected communities to: understand the clinical research process; voice concerns regarding specific clinical studies, their development, implementation and outcomes; give assistance concerning issues related to recruitment and retention of trial participants; give clinical trial participants necessary advocacy; forge a viable partnership that will lead to improved knowledge of HIV/AIDS disease; give a means to address grievance issues; and promote ethical research purposes and practices.
