MINORITY HIV RESEARCH TRAINING PROGRAM

The goals of the CWRU/UHCMC  CFAR's Minority HIV Research Training Program (MHRTP) are to provide  underrepresented minority research trainees with an increased awareness of  HIV/AIDS research issue and opportunities; to acquaint students with a  range of career opportunities in HIV research; and to encourage participants  to pursue graduate degrees and academic careers in the field.

The MHRTP focuses on recruiting  and training underrepresented minority research trainees to expand the pool of researchers in the HIV/AIDS field. The program offers  research-training opportunities to qualified minority undergraduates,  graduate and medical students who are members of underrepresented groups in biomedical and behavioral research careers. Participants in the MHRTP  benefit from early exposure to HIV science, continuous research training  and faculty mentoring.  The CFAR provides two annual summer scholarships for underrepresented minority students to work in CFAR research laboratories or research programs.

For purposes of the CFAR Minority HIV Research Training Program (MHRTP),

minorities are those who self-identify as African-Americans, Hispanics/Latino(a)s,

Native Americans, Alaskan Natives, or Hawaiian Natives.
